This proposal is for the construction of a new second runway parallel with the current runway with a capacity to land Long Haul International aircraft up to the level of the A380 which will become the premier International Airport for Vanuatu.

A new International terminal and all associated infrastructure would be established and the existing domestic runway would be retained and refurbished.

Vanuatu, due to it’s lack of infrastructure, looses out to some of it’s Pacific neighbours. The main glaring issue causing Vanuatu to miss out is lack of a extended runway for long-haul flights.

Fiji has eight flights per week from the USA, a mix of A330 & 747. Three flights from Hong Kong, A330. Five A330 flights from New Zealand. From Brisbane; five flights. From Sydney; seventeen flights per week in peak season. Melbourne; six flights per week. Plus flights from Japan, China, Singapore; seven days per week plus from many other nations.

With a new airport capable of accepting the larger long-haul aircraft, Vanuatu will be able to compete Internationally for the tourists who currently choose other destinations because of flight restrictions.
